The Global Coherence Initiative

The Vision:
The Global Coherence Initiative (GCI) is an important science-based initiative, launched in 2008, whose purpose is to unite millions of people in heart-focused care and intention to shift global consciousness from instability and discord to balance, cooperation and enduring peace.
GCI is sponsored by the California-based Institute of HeartMath®, a recognized global leader in researching emotional physiology, heart-brain interactions, and the physiology of optimal health, performance and organizational improvement. HeartMath’s research has identified a psycho-physiological state called heart coherence that empowers individuals and groups to release stress and incoherence at any time, and connect with a deeper awareness and intelligence. This psycho-physiological state quickly improves cognitive function, emotional self-regulation and social cohesion. The GCI theory of transformation is that: Increasing individual coherence leads to increased social coherence (family, team, organization and community), which in turn leads to increased global coherence, all of which is facilitated through self-reinforcing feedback loops.
The Global Coherence Initiative is committed to increasing the coherence of individuals and groups, to empower them to work together synchronistically and strategically, to increase the impact of their efforts to create positive global change.
The Goals:
All living systems are interconnected and communicate with one another via biological fields, electromagnetic and energetic fields. It is hypothesized that not only are humans affected by such energetic fields, but the earth’s energetic systems are influenced by collective human emotions and consciousness. Following from this hypothesis, a second hypothesis is that large numbers of people intentionally generating heart-coherent positive emotional states of care, compassion, appreciation and love will generate a coherent standing wave that can help offset present and future planetary-wide standing waves of stress and incoherence. GCI suggests that this outgoing coherent wave field will interact with and modulate other planetary energetic fields, including geomagnetic fields, thereby positively impacting collective consciousness within the field environment. This will create a mutually beneficial feedback loop between human beings and the earth’s energetic systems. The intention of GCI is to be a catalyst that will instigate, facilitate, and support the maintenance of an upward spiral of this feedback loop, for the mutual benefit of human beings and the planet we call home.
It has already been scientifically demonstrated that as individual heart coherence and the ability to self-regulate emotional state increases, there are numerous personal benefits in terms of improved health and well-being, improved cognitive and intuitive functions, and improved performance. There are correlated social coherence benefits to groups, such as families, schools and organizations in terms of improved relationships and communications, improved workplace satisfaction and productivity, and improved actualization of social missions and social return on investment (SROI). There is already substantial evidence that even small changes in the earth’s energetic fields and geomagnetic activity impact human heart rhythms, brain waves and stress symptoms on an individual and collective level. For example, changes in solar/geomagnetic activity have been correlated with changes in mental health, sleep, headaches, heart attacks, suicide rates, traffic accidents, and strokes. Geomagnetic activity also has been correlated with political upheavals, large-scale societal disturbances, terrorist attacks and major military conflicts. If humans can positively influence the magnetic fields produced by the earth and ionosphere, GCI hypothesizes this will produce a positive reciprocal influence on human health and quality of life globally.
It has also been established that effects of non-local intention can be amplified when certain conditions are present in social groups and organizations. For amplification, the group must have a shared purpose and, most importantly, its members must be emotionally attuned to one another through an interconnected network of mutually reciprocated relations of positive affect. The degree to which a group focuses positive emotion-infused intention on a nonlocal person of common interest, and the state (coherent or incoherent) of the person of interest, affects the outcome of the nonlocal influence.
Once a coherence wave is established, reinforced and amplified through collective coherent intention, it becomes a standing wave which in turn facilitates the process of amplification, making it easier for more and more people to increase their ability to self-regulate and take self-responsibility. As more and more individuals in social collectives become increasingly self-regulated and grow in conscious awareness, the increased individual coherence increases social coherence, which is reflected in increased cooperation and effective co-creative initiatives for the benefit of society and the planet.

GCI is building a Global Coherence Monitoring System (GCMS) to determine the effects of collective incoherence (negative emotional energy) and collective coherence (positive emotional energy) on the earth’s geomagnetic fields (ionosphere and static field). The GCMS involves a network of 12 sensor sites placed strategically around the planet which will enable scientifically controlled investigations into the relationship between the earth’s fields, collective human emotions, behaviors and planetary changes. Each site will include an ultrasensitive magnetic field detector that is sensitive to the effects of collective emotion-based human energy on the ionosphere, a Random Number Generator (RNG) and a geomagnetic (static field) detector. Data acquired from these detectors will be correlated with data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide a picture of the energetics of the earth. GCMS design and development is a collaborative effort of the Institute of HeartMath, astrophysicist Dr. Elizabeth Rauscher, Dr. Dean Radin of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, Dr. Roger Nelson of the Global Consciousness Project (originally at Princeton University), chronobiologist Dr. Franz Halberg of the University of Minnesota’s Halberg Chronobiology Center and other scientists and engineers on the GCI scientific advisory board.
Not only do people’s nervous systems detect electromagnetic waves generated by others in our environment, but there is also evidence of a global effect when large numbers of people create similar outgoing waves. For example, research conducted by Roger Nelson and his team at Princeton University for the Global Consciousness Project utilized a worldwide network of random number generators. Their findings have provided convincing evidence that human consciousness and collective emotional energetics interact with a global field, which affect the randomness of these electronic devices. The largest change in the random number generators occurred during the terrorists attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Even more intriguing was the fact that the random number generators were significantly affected some four to five hours prior to the attack, suggesting a worldwide collective intuition about the impending event.

An example of how human consciousness and the earth energetic fields are connected, can be seen in Figure 2 below. Two National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) space weather satellites monitoring the earth’s geomagnetic field displayed a significant spike at the time of the September 11th attack and for several days thereafter, potentially reflecting an emotional stress wave generated by the mass of humans which may have interacted with and caused modulations in the geomagnetic field.

It is also predicted that this outgoing coherent wave field will interact with and modulate planetary energetic and magnetic fields, and positively impact the collective consciousness within the field environment. Radiating love into the planetary field environment increases the positive energy, making it easier for the planet and its inhabitants to shift and transmute the accumulated negative energy.

The Global Coherence Initiative is providing scientifically-validated tools to increase individual and social heart coherence. Coherence data and long with health and well-being data collected from GCI members will be correlated with changes in the earth’s geomagnetic and ionospheric fields, societal, environmental and planetary changes. Every action counts and with upgrading the personal consciousness, the global field will be positively affected too. This in turn will create a mutually beneficial feedback loop between human beings and the earth’s energetic systems. The intention of GCI is to be a catalyst and support for an upward spiral for this mutual coherent human and planet earth interactions.
Heart Coherence – a simple tool for anybody: Studies conducted across diverse populations’ show that heart coherence in an optimal physiological state associated with emotional self-regulation and stability, improved health and mental functioning. It is a mode associated with positive feelings and increased heart/brain synchronization. An intention from a person in heart coherent state goes out like a radio wave and interacts with and modulates the planetary energetic fields, thus potentially affecting the collective consciousness which is tuned into the field environment. It is further hypnotized that the coherent field can be amplified in groups of coherent individuals where a self-reinforcing field of emotional energy amplifies and increases the beneficial effects.
Today, more people around the world recognize that their meditations, prayers, spiritual practices and intentions can affect the world. Researchers at HeartMath are exploring how augmenting these practices with heart coherence can help generate a lasting global impact. The hypothesis is that heart coherence can off-set slower, denser frequencies at the energetic level and draw them up to more harmonious and coherent patterns. These coherent patterns have the ability to positively affect the Earth’s energy field and the entire planet. They restore peace and harmony to areas affected by conflict-ridden thought.
Proof of Concept: Measurable Inner Peace, Measureable World Harmony
GCI focuses on scientifically-validated methods to build and increase individual, social and global coherence. It has been scientifically demonstrated that as individual heart coherence and the ability to self-regulate emotional state increases, numerous personal benefits in terms of improved health and well-being, improved cognitive and intuitive functions, and improved performance. Science and Earth monitoring: the Global Coherence Initiative is an international project which uses modern magnetic sensor technology to monitor changes in the earth’s magnetic field and ionosphere in relationship to collective human emotions, health and behavior and planetary changes. GCI goals are to empower individuals to be effective agents of personal, social and global transformation by: a) increasing the coherence and effectiveness of their personal and collective practices; b) increasing their personal and organizational coherence baselines; c) participating in scientific experiments to see if collective positive emotions and intentions affects the earth’s field and/or benefits public health and the environment; and d) enhancing the effectiveness and SROI of their peace group, environmental, or other social venture. As scientific proof of concept for a, b c and/or d is established, that evidence will contribute to a moment of co-creative personal, social and global change.
The Global Coherence Initiative is vitally important to the health and future of our planet. If it can be scientifically demonstrated that collective negative emotional energy and stress can be transformed (non-locally) by focused heart coherent energy and intention, that will inspire many individuals and groups to increase their heart coherence to positively interact with humanity’s and the earth’s fields. By demonstrating how individual and collective emotional energy affects the earth, GCI will facilitate a growing awareness of humanity’s relationship and interdependence with the earth itself.
